GERMAN IDEALISM: And the Breakdown of Modern Biblical Scholarship
Modern biblical scholarship claims impartiality in establishing the historical record of the ancient world. Its approach, however, flows from modern philosophical presuppositions that view faith as solely interior and divorced from the reality of history. The historical grounding of the Bible, therefore, has been dismissed outright regardless of evidence to the contrary, leading many people to view faith as subjective and individual. This talk will look at the devastating consequences of the legacy of modern philosophical positions in biblical scholarship and how this has affected Catholic theology and belief.
