Words to Live By

4.14.24

“The rediscovery of the Lord’s Day is a grace which we must implore, not only so that we may live the demands of Faith to the full, but also so that we may respond concretely to the deepest human yearnings. Time given to Christ is never time lost, but is rather time gained, so that our relationships and indeed our whole life may become more profoundly human.” St. John Paul II

“But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Savior on the same day rose from the dead.” St. Justin Martyr

“Who except God can give you peace? Has the world ever been able to satisfy the heart?” St. Gerard Majella

“Never despair of God’s Mercy.” St. Benedict

“Jesus Christ loves a soul that is in a State of Grace with an immense Love; He ardently desires to unite Himself with it. This is what Holy Communion does.” St. Alphonsus Liguori

4.7.24

“'Oh how much I am hurt by a soul’s distrust! Such a soul professes that I am Holy and Just, but does not believe that I am Mercy and does not trust in My Goodness. Even the devils believe in My Justice, but do not glorify My Goodness. My Heart rejoices in this title of Mercy.'” (Diary of St. Faustina, #300)

“'Proclaim that Mercy is the greatest attribute of God. All the works of My hands are crowned with Mercy.'” (Diary, #301)

“When once I asked the Lord Jesus how He could tolerate so many sins and crimes and not punish them, the Lord answered me, ‘I have an eternity for punishing [these], and so I am prolonging the time of Mercy for the sake of [sinners]. But woe to them if they do not recognize the time of My visitation.’” (Diary, #1160)

“The Lord said to me, ‘The loss of each soul plunges Me into mortal sadness. You always console Me when you pray for sinners. The prayer most pleasing to Me is prayer for the conversion of sinners. Know, My daughter, that this prayer is always heard and answered.’” (Diary, #1397)

“Jesus: ‘My child, life on earth is a struggle indeed; a great struggle for My Kingdom. But fear not, because you are not alone. I am always supporting you, so lean on Me as you struggle, fearing nothing. Take the vessel of trust and draw from the Fountain of Life - for yourself, but also for other souls, especially such as are distrustful of My Goodness.’” (Diary, #1488)

3.31.24

“Christ greeted His Mother, saying: ‘Peace be with you.’ The Virgin fell to her knees and weeping abundantly for joy adored Him, kissing His hands and feet saying: ‘O blessed wounds, which have given me such pain on Good Friday.’ Christ, kissing His Mother, said: ‘My Mother, rejoice, because from now on, you will have nothing but joy and celebration.’ Drying her tears, He sat down on the chair, and they spoke with each other very sweetly. Oh, if only someone could have been present to this exchange! The Virgin said to her Son, ‘Son, I am used to celebrating a Feast on the Sabbath [Saturday], signifying [God's] rest from the creation of the world, but from now on I celebrate a Feast on Sunday, in memory of Your Resurrection, and Rest and Glory.’ It pleased Christ.” St. Vincent Ferrer

“May she [Mary], who at the Announcement of the Angel welcomed Jesus, the ‘Gospel of life,’ into her womb and was filled with exultation at the moment of His Resurrection, obtain for us to be witnesses of the Risen Christ in the world, messengers of His Joy, communicators of His Love.” St. John Paul II

“At the side of each of you there will always be Mary, as she was present among the apostles, frightened and confused at the time of trial. And with her Faith she will show you, beyond the night of the world, the glorious dawn of the Resurrection.” St. John Paul II

“The Lord’s triumph, on the day of the Resurrection, is final. Where are the soldiers the rulers posted there? Where are the seals that were fixed to the stone of the tomb? Where are those who condemned the Master? Where are those who crucified Jesus? He is victorious, and faced with His Victory those poor wretches have all taken flight. Be filled with Hope: Jesus Christ is always victorious.” St. Josemarie Escriva

“Yes, Christ is truly risen, and we are witnesses of this. We proclaim this witness to the world, so that the joy which is ours will reach countless other hearts, kindling in them the light of the hope which does not disappoint.” St. John Paul II

3.24.24

“Why did You suffer for me, dear Jesus? For Love! The nails... the crown... the Cross... all for the Love of me! For You I sacrifice everything willingly. I offer You my body with all of its weakness, and my soul with all its Love." St. Gemma Galgani

“Whoever truly wishes to venerate the Passion of the Lord should con-template Jesus crucified with the eyes of his soul, and in such a way that he identifies his own body with that of Jesus.” St. Leo the Great

“It is good for us to try to understand better the meaning of Christ’s death. We must get beyond external appearances and clichés. We need to put ourselves really and truly into the scenes which we are re-living; to witness the sorrow of Jesus, His mother’s tears, the disciples’ flight, the courage of the holy women, the daring of those two Joseph and Nicodemus who ask Pilate for the Body of Our Lord.” St. Jose Maria Escriva

“He who desires to go on advancing from virtue to virtue, from Grace to Grace, should meditate continually on the Passion of Jesus… there is no practice more profitable for the entire sanctification of the soul than the frequent meditation of the sufferings of Jesus Christ.” St. Bonaventure

“Let us, above all, come close to Jesus in His death, close to His Cross which stands out in silhouette above the summit of Golgatha. But we must approach Him sincerely and with the interior recollection that is a sign of Christian maturity. The Divine and human events of the Pas-sion will then pierce our soul as words spoken to us by God to uncover the secrets of our heart and show us what He expects of our lives.” St. Jose Maria Escriva

"The death of the Lord our God should not be a cause of shame for us; rather, it should be our greatest hope, our greatest glory. In taking up-on Himself the death that He found in us, He has most faithfully promised to give us Life in Him, such as we cannot have of ourselves." --St. Augustine

“If it were only possible I would like to feel all that You feel. But You are perfect Man and Your sensitivity is so much greater than mine. At Your side I see, yet again, that I don’t know how to suffer. And so I am amazed by Your ability to give everything without reserve. Jesus, I must tell You just how cowardly I am. Yet seeing You nailed to the Cross ‘suffering all that can be suffered, Your arms spread in one gesture of an Eternal Priest.’” St. Jose Maria Escriva

3.17.24

“What could Jesus Christ refuse St. Joseph, who never refused Him anything during his mortal life on earth?” St. Augustine

“St. Joseph was an ordinary sort of man on whom God relied to do great things. He did exactly what the Lord wanted him to do, in each and every event that went to make up his life. That is why Scripture praises Joseph as ‘a just man’. And in Hebrew a just man means a good and faithful servant of God, someone who fulfills the Divine Will, or who is honorable and charitable toward his neighbor.” St. Josemaria Escriva

“The dignity and glory of St. Joseph is such that the Eternal Father conferred upon him with greatest liberality, a likeness to his own supremacy over his incarnate Son.” St. Bernadine of Siena

“What many kings and prophets desired to see, and saw not; desired to hear, and heard not; he [St. Joseph] was allowed not merely to hear and see, but also to carry, lead, embrace, kiss, nourish, and protect.” St. Bernard of Clairvaux

“Jesus wished to become indebted to St. Joseph for the necessities of life, and of this Holy Patriarch alone it may be said that he saved the life of his Savior.” St. Madaleine Sophie Barat

“Saint Joseph is most powerful against the demons which fight against us at the end of our lives.” St. Alphonsus de Liguori

“I know not how anyone can ponder on the sufferings, trials, and tribulations the Queen of Angels endured whilst caring for Jesus in His childhood, without at the same time thanking St. Joseph for the services he rendered the Divine Child and His Blessed Mother.” St. Teresa of Avila

3.10.24

“There is more joy in Heaven over a converted sinner than over a righteous person standing firm. A leader in battle has more love for a soldier who returns after fleeing and who valiantly pursues the enemy, than for one who never turned back but who never acted valiantly either. A farmer has greater love for land which bears fruitfully, after he has cleared it of thorns, than for land which never had thorns but which never yielded a fruitful harvest.” St. Pope Gregory the Great (540-604) “The Sun of our lives is the Eucharist.” St. Luigi Guanella

“A Saint is not someone who never sins, but one who sins less and less frequently and gets up more and more quickly.” St. Bernard of Clairvaux

“Then, overcome by joy, I cried, 'Jesus, my Love. At last I have found my vocation. My vocation is Love. In the heart of the Church, my mother, I will be Love, and then I will be all things.” St. Thérèse de Lisieux

“Do not be afraid, then, when Love makes demands. Do not be afraid when Love requires sacrifice.” St. Pope John Paul II

“God loves each of us as if there were only one of us.” St. Augustine

“Mihi mori lucrum - For me to die is a gain. To die, murdered by the haters of Jesus Christ, would be my gain. All my fervent desires have always been to die in a hospital as a poor man, or on the scaffold as a martyr, murdered by enemies because of the most holy Religion that we profess and preach. I should like to seal with my blood the Virtues and Truths which I have preached and taught.” St. Anthony Mary Claret

3.3.24

“God had one Son on earth without sin, but never one without suffering.” St. Augustine

“As iron is fashioned by fire and on the anvil, so in the fire of suffering and under the weight of trials, our souls receive that form which our Lord desires them to have.” St. Madeline Sophie Barat

“When it is all over you will not regret having suffered; rather you will regret having suffered so little, and suffered that little so badly.” St. Sebastian Valfre

“Whenever anything disagreeable or displeasing happens to you, remember Christ Crucified and be silent.” St. John of the Cross

“In difficult moments, I will fix my gaze upon the silent Heart of Jesus stretched on the Cross, and from the exploding flames of His merciful Heart, will flow down upon me power and strength to keep fighting.” St. Faustina

“The road is narrow. He who wishes to travel it more easily must cast off all things and use the Cross as his cane. In other words, he must be truly resolved to suffer willingly for the Love of God in all things.” St. John of the Cross

“The Passion of Christ is the greatest and most stupendous work of Divine Love. The greatest and most overwhelming work of God’s Love.” St. Paul of the Cross

2.25.24

“He so hated and despised sin that He avenged it on His own body with great pain, derision, torture, and reproach, His Passion and death - and not for Himself (for the poison of sin was not in Him) but only as a service to us, to satisfy for our sins. He gives us back the light of Grace and relieves us of the darkness that had entered our soul be-cause of sin.” St. Catherine of Siena

“I say we have been given a guide. I mean the only-begotten Incarnate Word, God's Son, who shows us how to walk along this road that is so well lighted. He says, you know ‘I am the Way and Truth and Life. Whoever walks in me walks not in darkness but in light.’ He is Truth, and there is no falsehood in Him.” St. Catherine of Siena

“He who wishes to find Jesus should seek Him, not in the delights and pleasures of the world, but in mortification of the senses.” St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori “Let us read the lives of the Saints; let us consider the penances which they performed, and blush to be so… fearful of mortifying our flesh.” St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

“Some subordinate their progress in perfection, which consists in denying their desires and likings out of Love for God, to their own tastes and whims. So strong is this inclination that even if they are commanded by obedience to do something which is to their liking, they immediately lose their desire for it, and all interest in it, because their one desire is to do their own will. The Saints did not act this way.” St. John of the Cross

2.18.24

“If God sends you many sufferings, it is a sign that He has great plans for you and certainly wants to make you a saint.” St. Ignatius Loyola

“The road is narrow. He who wishes to travel it more easily must cast off all things and use the Cross as his cane. In other words, he must be truly resolved to suffer willingly for the love of God in all things.” St. John of the Cross

“One must not think that a person who is suffering is not praying. He is offering up his sufferings to God, and many a time he is praying much more truly than one who goes away by himself and medi-tates his head off, and, if he has squeezed out a few tears, thinks that is prayer.” St. Teresa of Avila

“Blessed be He, Who came into the world for no other purpose than to suffer.” St. Teresa of Avila “Suffering is a great favor. Remember that everything soon comes to an end… and take courage. Think of how our gain is eternal.” St. Teresa of Avila

“It is You Jesus, stretched out on the Cross, who gives me strength and are always close to the suffering soul. Creatures will abandon a person in his suffering, but You, O Lord, are faithful…” (Diary, 1508) St. Faustina

"I always want to see you behaving like a brave soldier who does not complain about his own suffering but takes his comrades' wounds seriously and treats his own as nothing but scratches." St. Therese of Lisieux, to her novices

2.11.24

“It is easy to love the people far away. It is not always easy to love those close to us. It is easier to give a cup of rice to relieve hunger than to relieve the loneliness and pain of someone unloved in our own home. Bring love into your home for this is where our love for each other must start.” St. Theresa of Calcutta

“It takes three to make love, not two: you, your spouse, and God. Without God people only succeed in bringing out the worst in one another. Lovers who have nothing else to do but love each other soon find there is nothing else. Without a central loyalty, life is unfinished.” Ven. Fulton Sheen
“When a man loves a woman, he has to become worthy of her. The higher her virtue, the more noble her character, the more devoted she is to Truth, justice, goodness, the more a man has to aspire to be worthy of her. The history of civilization could actually be written in terms of the level of its women.” Ven. Fulton Sheen

“Take away from Love the fullness of self-surrender, the completeness of personal commitment, and what remains will be a total denial and negation of it.” St. Pope John Paul II

“Don’t you long to shout to those youths who are bustling around you: Fools! Leave those worldly things that shackle the heart - and very often degrade it - leave all that and come with us in search of Love!” St. Josemaria Escriva

“Love is the most necessary of all virtues. Love in the person who preaches the Word of God is like fire in a musket. If a person were to throw a bullet with his hands, he would hardly make a dent in anything; but if the person takes the same bullet and ignites some gunpowder behind it, it can kill. It is much the same with the Word of God. If it is spoken by someone who is filled with the Fire of Charity - the Fire of Love of God and neighbor - it will work wonders.” St. Anthony Mary Claret

“You learn to speak by speaking, to study by studying, to run by running, to work by working, and just so, you learn to love by loving. All those who think to learn in any other way deceive themselves.” St. Francis de Sales

2.4.24

Honor your father and your mother, that you may have a long life in the land the LORD your God is giving you. Exodus 20:12

If anyone says,“I love God,” but hates his brother, he is a liar; for whoever does not love a brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. 1 John 4:20

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the Church and handed Himself over for her. Ephesians 5:25

Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing to the Lord. Fathers, do not provoke your children, so they may not become discouraged. Colossians 3:20-21

“As the family goes, so goes the nation and so goes the whole world in which we live.” St. John Paul the Great

“If you want to bring happiness to the whole world, go home and love your family.” St. Teresa of Calcutta

“The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the heart of a moth-er.” St. Therese of Lisieux

“When husband and wife are united in Marriage they no longer seem like something earthly, but rather like the image of God Him-self.” St. John Chrysostom

1.28.24

O Lord, our Lord, how great is Your Name through all the earth! Psalm 8: 2,10

Some trust in chariots or horses, but we in the Name of the Lord! Psalm 19:8

Lord, for the sake of Your Name, forgive my guilt; for it is great. Psalm 24:11

In Him do our hearts find joy. We trust in His Holy Name! Psalm 32:21

“The Holy Name of Jesus is, first of all, an all-powerful prayer. Our Lord, Himself, solemnly promises, that whatever we ask the Father in His Name, we shall receive. God never fails to keep His Word. Each time we say “Jesus,” it is an act of perfect Love, for, we offer to God, the infinite Love of Jesus” St Alphonsus Liguori

“The Name of Jesus is Light, and Food, and Medicine. It is Light, when It is preached to us; It is Food, when we think upon It; It is the Medicine that soothes our pains when we invoke It.” St. Bernard of Clairvaux

1.21.24

“The sweet Name of Jesus produces in us holy thoughts, fills the soul with noble sentiments, strengthens virtue, begets good works, and nourishes pure affection. All spiritual food leaves the soul dry, if it contain not that penetrating oil, the Name Jesus.” St. Bernard of Clairvaux

“If thou art bound down by sickness, if sorrows weary thee, if thou art trembling with fear, invoke the name of Jesus.” St. Lawrence Justinian

“Are you troubled? Think but of Jesus - speak but the Name of Jesus, the clouds disperse and peace descends anew from Heaven. Have you fallen into sin? So that you fear death? ...invoke the Name of Jesus and you will soon feel life returning. No obduracy of the soul, no weakness, no coldness of heart can resist this Holy Name - there is no heart which will not soften and open in tears at this Holy Name.” St. Bernard of Clairvaux

“The Name of Jesus is the glory of preachers because the shining splendor of that Name causes His Word to be proclaimed and heard. And how do you think such an immense, sudden and dazzling light of faith came into the world, if not because Jesus was preached? Was it not through the brilliance and sweet savor of this Name that God called us into His marvelous Light?” St Bernardine of Siena

1.14.24

He humbled Himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross. Because of this, God greatly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the Name that is above every name, that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in Heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. St. Paul’s Letter the Philippians 2:8-11

“To holy people the very Name of Jesus is a Name to feed upon, a Name to transport. His Name can raise the dead and transfigure and beautify the living.” St. John Henry Newman

“Faith in Jesus and in the power of His Holy Name is the greatest spiritual force in the world today. It is a source of joy and inspiration in our youth; of strength in our manhood, when only His Holy Name and His Grace can enable us to overcome temptation; of hope, consolation, and confidence at the hour of our death, when more than ever before, we realize that the meaning of Jesus is ‘Lord, the Savior.’ We should bow in reverence to His Name and submission to His Holy Will.” Blessed Henry Suso

1.7.24

“What are you doing, O Magi? Do you adore a little Babe, in a wretched hovel, wrapped in miserable rags? Can this Child be truly God?... Are you become foolish, O Wise Men… Yes, these Wise Men have become fools that they may be wise.” St. Bernard of Clairvaux

“For by gold the power of a King is signified, by frankincense the honor of God, by myrrh the burial of the Body; and accordingly they offer Him gold as King, frankincense as God, myrrh as Man.” St. John Chrysostom

“Today the Magi gaze in deep wonder at what they see: Heaven on earth, earth in Heaven, man in God, God in man, one whom the whole universe cannot contain now enclosed in a tiny Body. As they look, they believe and do not question, as their symbolic gifts bear witness: incense for God, gold for a King, myrrh for One who is to die.” St. Peter Chrysologus

“Truth, by which the world is held together, has sprung from the earth, in order to be carried in a woman’s arms.” St. Augustine

“Give me, therefore, I pray Thee, this gold, this incense, and this myrrh. Give me the gold of Thy holy Love; give me the Spirit of holy prayer, give me the desire and strength to mortify myself in everything that displeases Thee. I am resolved to obey Thee and to love Thee; but Thou knowest my weakness, oh, give me the Grace to be faithful to Thee!” St. Alphonsus Liguori

12.32.23

“Truth, by which the world is held together, has sprung from the earth, in order to be carried in a woman’s arms.” St. Augustine

"Men do not fear a powerful hostile army as the powers of hell fear the name and protection of Mary." St. Bonaventure

“No one will ever be the servant of the Son without serving the Mother.” St. Ildephonsus

”There is no one, O Most Holy Mary, who can know God except through thee; no one who can be saved or redeemed but through thee, O Mother of God; no one who can be delivered from dangers but through thee, O Virgin Mother; no one who obtains Mercy but through thee, O Filled-With-All-Grace!” St. Germanus of Constantinople

“By Divine Grace, we find ourselves at the beginning of a new year. This year, which only God knows if we shall see its end, must be used in reparation for the past and in preparation for the future. Good deeds are the fruit of good resolutions.” St. Padre Pio

12.24.23

“O Father, in your Truth (that is to say, in your Son, humbled, needy and homeless) You have humbled me. He was humbled in the womb of the Virgin, needy in the manger of the sheep, and homeless on the wood of the Cross. Nothing so humbles the proud sinner as the humility of Jesus Christ’s humanity.” St. Anthony of Padua

“Christ’s birth was not necessity, but an expression of omnipotence, a sacrament of piety for the redemption of men. He who made man without generation from pure clay made man again and was born from a pure body. The Hand that assumed clay to make our flesh deigned to assume a body for your salvation. That the Creator is in His creature and God is in the flesh brings dignity to man without dishonor to Him who made him. Why then, man, are you so worthless in your own eyes and yet so precious to God?” St. Peter Chrysologus

“We desire to be able to welcome Jesus at the Christmas-time, not in a cold manger of our heart, but in a heart full of love and humility, in a heart so pure, so immaculate, so warm with love for one another.” St. Teresa of Calcutta

“Rejoice and be glad that so great and good a Lord, on coming into the Virgin’s womb, willed to appear despised, needy, and poor in this world, so that men who were in dire poverty and suffering great need of Heavenly Food might be made rich in Him.” St. Clare of Assisi “Mankind is a great, an immense family… This is proved by what we feel in our hearts at Christmas.” St. John XXIII

“And in the end… everything else will turn out to be unimportant and inessential, except for this: Father, Child and Love.” St. John Paul II “Lord, you were conceived in the womb of a Virgin and were crucified for all men… for all without distinction. And yet, how differently they pay you back.” St. Rafael Arnaiz

12.17.23

“You ask me whether I am in good spirits. How could I not be so? As long as Faith gives me strength, I will always be joyful.” Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati

“If we wish to serve God and love our neighbor well, we must manifest our joy in the service we render to Him and them. Let us open wide our hearts. It is joy which invites us. Press forward and fear nothing.” St. Katharine Drexel

“The Lord looked into the depth of my being with great kindness; I thought I would die for joy under that gaze.” St. Faustina

“Joy, with Peace, is the sister of Charity. Serve the Lord with laughter.” St. Padre Pio

12.10.23

“I am the Immaculate Conception.” The Blessed Virgin Mary to St. Bernadette at Lourdes, France, in the year 1858. “The most Blessed Virgin Mary, in the first instant of her Conception, by a singular Grace and privilege granted by Almighty God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the human race, was preserved free from all stain of original sin.” Blessed Pius IX in the year 1854. “Mary was pleasing to God because of her docile humility. To the heavenly Messenger, she replied, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done to me according to your word” (Lk 1,38). It is with the same interior disposition that believers are called to accept the Divine Will in every circumstance.” St. John Paul II

“The Immaculate Conception shines like a beacon of light for humanity in all the ages. At the beginning of the third millennium, it guides us to believe and hope in God, in His Salvation and in Eternal Life. In particular, it lights the way of the Church, which is committed to the new evangelization.” St. John Paul II

“Thou alone and Thy Mother are in all things fair; there is no flaw in Thee and no stain in Thy Mother.” St. Ephrem

12.3.23

“Mark the season of Advent by loving and serving others with God’s own love and concern.” St. Teresa of Calcutta

“Jesus Christ, Lord of all things! You see my heart, You know my desires. Possess all that I am - You alone. I am Your sheep; make me worthy to overcome the devil.” St. Agatha

“It is better to be a child of God than king of the whole world.” St. Aloysius Gonzaga

“He who trusts in himself is lost. He who trusts in God can do all things.” “What does it cost us to say, ‘My God help me! Have mercy on me!’ Is there anything easier than this? And this little will suffice to save us if we be diligent in doing it.” St. Alphonsus Liguori

“How good and pleasant it is to dwell in the Heart of Jesus! Who is there who does not love a heart so wounded? Who can refuse a return of love to a Heart so loving?” St. Bernard of Clairvaux“

Words of Jesus to St. Faustina (as found in the Diary of St. Faustina): “(My daughter) Speak to the world about My Mercy; let all mankind recognize My unfathomable Mercy. It is a sign for the end times; after it will come the Day of Justice. While there is still time, let them have recourse to the fount of My Mercy; let them profit from the Blood and Water which gushed forth for them.” Diary, 848 (cf., John 19:34: “one soldier thrust his lance into His side, and immediately Blood and Water flowed out.”)
“Write: before I come as a just Judge, I first open wide the door of My Mercy. He who refuses to pass through the door of My Mercy must pass through the door of My Justice…” Diary, 1146 (cf., John 10:7: “I am the Gate for the sheep...”)

“…I am prolonging the time of Mercy for the sake of sinners. But woe to them if they do not recognize this time of My visitation. My daughter, secretary of My Mercy, your duty is not only to write about and proclaim My Mercy, but also to beg for this Grace for them, so that they too may glorify My Mercy.” Diary, 1160

Words of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy, to St. Faustina: “…you have to speak to the world about His great mercy and prepare the world for the Second Coming of Him Who will come, not as a merciful Savior, but as a just Judge. Oh, how terrible is that day! Determined is the day of Justice, the Day of Divine Wrath. The Angels tremble before it. Speak to souls about this great Mercy while it is still the time for granting Mercy.” Diary, 635

There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary.” - Sister Lucia of Fatima

"If you remembered the presence of your Angel and the Angels of your neighbors, you would avoid many of the foolish things which slip into your conversations." St. Josemaria Escriva

"The Angels of God accompanied the faithful when the light of His Truth only dawned in the new world. And now that the day sprung from on high was visited, and exalted our nature to a union with the Divinity, will these beneficent beings be less associated or delighted to dwell with the soul that is panting for heavenly joys and longing to join in their eternal alleluias? Oh, no, I will imagine them always surrounding me and in every moment will sing with them, 'Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts, Heaven and earth are full of Your glory!'" St. Elizabeth Seton

May her Name never be far from your lips, or far from your heart… If you follow her, you will not stray; if you pray to her, you will not despair; if you turn your thoughts to her, you will not err. If she holds you, you will not fall; if she protects you, you need not fear; if she is your guide, you will not tire; if she is gracious to you, you will surely reach your destination.” St. Bernard

“Be not afraid; my Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and your safe path to God.” Our Lady of Fatima to the shepherd children After showing them Hell Our Lady said to the children: “You have seen Hell where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish in the world devotion to My Immaculate Heart. If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved and there will be peace.” Our Lady of Fatima to the shepherd children Our Lady Establishes the Devotion of the Five First Saturdays: On December 10, 1925, Our Lady, holding Her Immaculate Heart in Her Hand, appeared to Lucia, and by Her side stood the Child Jesus on a luminous cloud. The Child Jesus said: “Have compassion on the Heart of your Most Holy Mother, covered with thorns, with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment, and there is no one to make an act of reparation to remove them.” Then the Blessed Virgin Mary said to Lucia: “Look, my daughter, at My Heart, surrounded with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce Me at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You at least try to console Me and say that I promise to assist at the hour of death, with the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months, shall confess, receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making reparation to Me.” On another occasion the Child Jesus reappeared to Lucia and asked that those who practice this devotion, receive Him in Holy Communion when in the State of Grace. “No one should fear to suffer for the sake of justice, no one should lose confidence in the reward that has been promised. The way to rest is through toil, the way to life is through death. If then we are steadfast in our Faith in Him and in our Love for Him, we win the victory that He has won, we receive what He has promised.” Pope St. Leo the Great

“Jesus goes before us to show us the way, both up the mountain and into heaven and — I speak boldly — it is for us now, to follow Him with all speed… Let us run with confidence and joy to enter into the cloud like Moses and Elijah, or like James and John. Let us be caught up like Peter to behold the Divine Vision and to be transfigured by that glorious Transfiguration. Let us retire from the world, stand aloof from the earth, rise above the body, detach ourselves from creatures and turn to the Creator, to whom Peter in ecstasy exclaimed: ‘Lord, it is good for us to be here.’” Venerable St Bede

“You reign on the Almighty’s throne also in transfigured human form, ever since the completion of Your work on earth.” St Edith Stein

“True, I am in love with suffering, but I do not know if I deserve the honor.” St. Ignatius of Loyola

“Take, beloved son this Scapular of thy Order as a badge of my confraternity and for thee and all Carmelites a special sign of Grace; whoever dies in this garment, will not suffer everlasting fire.” The Virgin Mary to St. Simon Stock “Be not afraid to tell Jesus that you love Him; even though it be without feeling, this is the way to oblige Him to help you, and carry you like a little child too feeble to walk.” St. Therese of Lisieux

“How happy I am to see myself imperfect and be in need of God's Mercy.” St. Therese of Lisieux

“The Eucharist is a fire that inflames us, that like lions breathing fire, we may retire from the altar being made terrible to the devil.” St. John Chrysostom

“Like the saplings of plants, the young are easily influenced, as long as someone works to teach their souls. But if they are allowed to grow hard, we know well that the possibility of one day bending them, diminishes a great deal and is sometimes utterly lost.” St Joseph Calasanz

“Give only good example, to the children; never correct them, when out of humor or impatient. We must win them by an appeal to their piety and to their hearts. Soften your reprimands with kind words; encourage and reward them. That is, in short, our way of educating.” St Madeleine Sophie Barat

“Have mercy, O Lord, on my children. In my children, call to mind Your Childhood, You who were a Child. Let them that are like Your Childhood be saved by Your Grace.” St. Ephrem the Syrian

“Just as this child, whose example I show you, does not persist in anger, does not long remember injury suffered, is not enamored inordinately by the sight of a beautiful woman, does not think one thing and say another, so you too, unless you have similar innocence and purity of mind, will not be able to enter the Kingdom of Heaven!” St. Jerome

“For at all times we must so serve Him with the good things He has given us, that He may not, as an angry Father, disinherit His children, nor as a dread Lord, provoked by our evil deeds, deliver us to everlasting punishment as wicked servants who refuse to follow Him to glory.” St. Benedict of Nursia

The Rule of Saint Benedict “He should first show them in deeds rather than words all that is good and holy.” St. Benedict of Nursia,

The Rule of Saint Benedict St. Benedict was accustomed to visit his sister, Scholastica, every year, for “she could not be sated or wearied with the words of grace which flowed from his lips.” On his last visit, three days before she was to be called to Heaven, after a full day passed in spiritual converse, St Scholastica, knowing that her end was near, said, “My brother, leave me not, I pray you, this night, but discourse with me till dawn on the bliss of those who see God in Heaven. When she heard her brother refuse her request, the holy woman joined her hands on the table, laid her head on them and began to pray. As she raised her head from the table, there were such brilliant flashes of lightning, such great peals of thunder and such a heavy downpour of rain that neither Benedict nor his brethren could stir across the threshold of the place where they had been seated. Sadly he began to complain: “May God forgive you, sister. What have you done?” “Well,” she answered, “I asked you and you would not listen, so I asked my God and He did listen. So now go off, if you can, leave me and return to your Monastery.” From a summary of the life of St. Benedict by St. Gregory

“Precious Blood, Ocean of Divine Mercy: Flow upon us! Precious Blood, Most pure Offering: Procure us every Grace! Precious Blood, Hope and Refuge of sinners: Atone for us! Precious Blood, Delight of holy souls: Draw us! Amen.” St. Catherine of Siena

“This Blood, when worthily received, drives away demons and puts them at a distance from us, and even summons to us Angels and the Lord of Angels. This Blood, poured out in abundance, has washed the whole world clean. This is the price of the world; by it Christ purchased the Church.” St. John Chrysostom

“Every time a creature offers up this Blood by which he was redeemed, he offers a Gift of infinite worth, which can be equaled by no other!” St. Mary Magdalen de Pazzi

“You come to me and unite Yourself intimately to me under the form of nourishment. Your Blood now runs in mine, Your Soul, Incarnate God, compenetrates mine, giving courage and support. What miracles! Who would have ever imagined such!” St. Maximilian Kolbe “O Lord, we cannot go to the pool of Siloe to which you sent the blind man. But we have the Chalice of Your Precious Blood, filled with Life and Light. The purer we are, the more we receive.” St. Ephraem

“Don’t hold yourselves cheap, seeing that the Creator of all things and of you estimates your value so high, so dear, that He pours out for you every day the most Precious Blood of His only-begotten Son.” St. Augustine

“One cannot love without suffering or suffer without loving.” St. Gianna Molla “The proof of Love is in the works. Where Love exists, it works great things. But when it ceases to act, it ceases to exist.” St. Gregory the Great

“In order to bring true peace back to my soul, the only way that there exists on the Earth is Confession, because Jesus awaits me with His immense Heart.” St. Gianna Molla

“Love ought to show Itself in deeds more than words.” St. Ignatius of Loyola

“If you truly want to help the soul of your neighbor, you should approach God first with all your heart. Ask Him simply to fill you with Charity, the greatest of all virtues; with it you can accomplish what you desire.” St. Vincent Ferrer

“There is nothing colder than a Christian who is not concerned about the salvation of others… Do not say, I cannot help others: for, if you are truly a Christian it is impossible not to. Natural objects have properties that cannot be denied; the same is true of what I have just said, because it is the nature of a Christian to act in that way. Do not offend God by deception. If you said that the sun cannot shine, you would be committing an offense against God and making a liar of Him. It is easier for the sinner to shine or give warmth than for a Christian to cease to give light: it is easier for that to happen than for light to become darkness. Do not say that that is impossible: what is impossible is the contrary… If we behave in the correct way, everything else will follow as a natural consequence. The light of Christians cannot be hidden, a lamp shining so brightly cannot be hidden.” St. John Chrysostom

“Eating and drinking don't make friendships - such friendship even robbers and murderers have. But if we are friends, if we truly care for one another, let us help one another spiritually… Let us hinder those things that lead our friends away to hell.” St. John Chrysostom

“In her voyage across the ocean of this world, the Church is like a great ship being pounded by the waves of life’s different stresses. Our duty is not to abandon ship but to keep her on her course.” St. Boniface

“It is absolutely necessary, both for our advancement and the salvation of others, to follow always and in all things the beautiful light of Faith.” St. Vincent de Paul

“The Eucharist is the Sacrament of Love: it signifies Love, it produces Love. The Eucharist is the consummation of the whole spiritual life.” St. Thomas Aquinas

“To speak of the Blessed Sacrament is to speak of what is most sacred. How often, when we are in a state of distress, those to whom we look for help leave us; or what is worse, add to our affliction by heaping fresh troubles upon us. He is ever there, waiting to help us.” St. Euphrasia

"If we but paused for a moment to consider attentively what takes place in this Sacrament (Holy Eucharist), I am sure that the thought of Christ's Love for us would transform the coldness of our hearts into a fire of love and gratitude." St. Angela of Foligno

"When the bee has gathered the dew of Heaven and the earth's sweetest nectar from the flowers, it turns it into honey, then hastens to its hive. In the same way, the priest, having taken from the Altar the Son of God (who is as the dew from Heaven, and true Son of Mary, flower of our humanity), gives Him to you as delicious Food." St. Francis de Sales

"All the good works in the world are not equal to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass because they are the works of men; but the Mass is the work of God. Martyrdom is nothing in comparison for it is but the sacrifice of man to God; but the Mass is the Sacrifice of God for man." St. John Vianney

"If angels could be jealous of men, they would be so for one reason: Holy Communion." St. Maximilian Kolbe

“Since Christ Himself has said, ‘This is My Body,’ who shall dare to doubt that it is His Body?” St. Cyril of Jerusalem

“Make my soul… Your cherished dwelling place, Your home of rest. Let me never leave You there alone, but keep me there all absorbed in You, in living Faith, adoring You.” St. Elizabeth of the Trinity

“Believe that He loves you. He wants to help you Himself in the struggles which you must undergo. Believe in His Love, His exceeding Love.” St. Elizabeth of the Trinity

"The three things God loves most: True Faith in God with a pure heart, a simple life with a grateful spirit, and openhandedness to the poor inspired by Charity. The three things that most displease God are: a mouth that hates people, a heart harboring resentments and confidence in wealth." St. Ita of Ireland

“Once after Holy Communion, I heard these words: You are our dwelling place. At that moment I felt in my soul the presence of the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I felt that I was the Temple of God. I felt that I was a child of the Father. I cannot explain all this, but the Spirit understands this well.” St. Faustina, from her Diary, 451

“I knew more distinctly than ever before the Three Divine Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. But their being, their equality, and their majesty are ne. My soul is in communion with these Three; but I do not know how to express this in words; yet my soul understands this well. Whoever is united to One of the Three Persons is thereby united to the whole Blessed Trinity, for this Oneness is indivisible.” St. Faustina, from her Diary, 472

"O Holy Spirit, descend plentifully into my heart. Enlighten the dark corners of this neglected dwelling and scatter there Thy cheerful beams.” St. Augustine

“You could not love Jesus if you did not possess the living source of holy and pure Love, namely, the Holy Spirit. Our Divine Redeemer said, "He that believeth in Me, out of his belly shall flow streams of living water." (John 7:38.) This He said of the Spirit which they should receive who believed in Him. Therefore, when God enkindles in you the flames of Divine Love, holy, pure, and without stain, let yourself disappear in the infinite Good, and, like an infant, sleep the sleep of Faith and Love in the bosom of your heavenly Spouse.” St. Paul of the Cross

"Out of compassion for us He descended from Heav-en and although He ascended alone, we also ascend, because we are in Him by Grace." St. Augustine.

"As the prophet says, Ascending on high He led captivity captive; He gave gifts to men. The undoubted meaning of these words is this: that since the devil led the human race captive, our Lord, by wresting it from him, took it captive Himself, and as the prophet tells us, led that very captivity to the heights of Heaven. Both captivities do indeed bear the same name, but they differ one from the other. The devil's captivity means enslavement; Christ's, on the contrary, means restoration to freedom." St. Maximus of Turin

"Moses brought out of Egypt a timid nation, and in the space of forty years trained it to be full of valor for the task of conquering the promised land; Christ in forty days trains His Apostles to be bold and patient instead of cowards. They mourned and wept at the beginning of the season, but at the end they are full of courage for the good fight; their spirits mount high with their Lord, and when He is received out of their sight, and their own trial begins, they return to Jerusalem with great joy, and are continually in the temple, praising and blessing God." St. John Henry Newman

“We are of such value to God that He came to live among us... and to guide us home. He will go to any length to seek us, even to being lifted high upon the Cross to draw us back to Himself. We can only respond by loving God for His love.” St. Catherine of Siena

“In the moment of temptation think of the Love that awaits you in Heaven: foster the Virtue of Hope.” St. Jose Maria Escriva

“Let us have Charity and Humility, and give alms, for almsgiving cleanses our souls from the filth of sin. At death we lose all that we have in this world, but we take with us Charity and the alms deeds we have done, and for these we shall receive a great reward from God.” St. Francis of Assisi

“Let us sing Alleluia here on earth, while we still live in anxiety, so that we may sing it one day in Heaven in full security.” St. Augustine

"To give worthy praise to the Lord's Mercy, we unite ourselves with Your Immaculate Mother, for then our hymn will be more pleasing to You, because She is chosen from among men and Angels. Through Her, as through a pure crystal, Your mercy was passed on to us. Through Her, man became pleasing to God; through Her, streams of Grace flowed down upon us." (Diary, 1746) St. Faustina

"Mary, give me your Heart: so beautiful, so pure, so immaculate; your Heart so full of Love and humility that I may be able to receive Jesus in the Bread of Life and Love Him as you Love Him and serve Him in the distressing disguise of the poor." St. Mother Teresa

“The greatest saints, those richest in Grace and virtue will be the most assiduous in praying to the most Blessed Virgin, looking up to her as the perfect model to imitate and as a powerful helper to assist them.” St. Louis Marie de Montfort

Faustina, #300) “'Proclaim that Mercy is the greatest attribute of God. All the works of My hands are crowned with Mercy.'” (Diary, #301) “When once I asked the Lord Jesus how He could tolerate so many sins and crimes and not punish them, the Lord answered me, ‘I have an eternity for punishing [these], and so I am prolonging the time of Mercy for the sake of [sinners]. But woe to them if they do not recognize the time of My visitation.’” (Diary, #1160) “The Lord said to me, ‘The loss of each soul plunges Me into mortal sadness.

“He so hated and despised sin that He avenged it on His own Body with great pain, derision, torture, and reproach, His passion and death - and not for Himself (for the poison of sin was not in Him) but only as a service to us, to satisfy for our sins. He gives us back the Light of Grace and relieves us of the darkness that had entered our soul because of sin.” St. Catherine of Siena

“If we do not use great care to mortify our will, there are many things which can deprive us of the Holy Freedom of spirit that we are seek-ing in order to fly more freely to our Creator, without always being bogged down with the clay of this earth. Moreover, there can never be solid virtue in a soul that is attached to its own will.” St. Teresa of Avila

“And even if the sins of soul are as dark as night, when the sinner turns to My Mercy he gives Me the greatest praise and is the glory of My Passion.” Jesus to St. Faustina, Divine Mercy in my Soul: #378

“Do not pass one day without devoting a half hour, or at least a quarter of an hour, to meditation on the sorrowful Passion of your Savior. Have a continual remembrance of the agonies of your crucified Love, and know that the greatest saints, who now, in Heaven, triumph in holy Love, arrived at perfection in this way.” St. Paul of the Cross

“True reverence for the Lord’s Passion means fixing the eyes of our heart on Jesus crucified and recognizing in Him our own humanity.” Pope St. Leo the Great

“Christians must lean on the Cross of Christ just as travelers lean on a staff when they begin a long journey. They must have the Passion of Christ deeply embedded in their minds and hearts, because only from It can they derive Peace, Grace, and Truth.” St. Anthony of Padua

“There is no practice more profitable for the entire sanctification of the soul than the frequent meditation of the sufferings of Jesus Christ.” St. Alphonsus de Liguori

“If God sends you many sufferings, it is a sign that He has great plans for you and certainly wants to make you a saint.” St. Ignatius Loyola “The road is narrow. He who wishes to travel it more easily must cast off all things and use the Cross as his cane. In other words, he must be truly resolved to suffer willingly for the love of God in all things.” St. John of the Cross

“One must not think that a person who is suffering is not praying. He is offering up his sufferings to God, and many a time he is praying much more truly than one who goes away by himself and meditates his head off, and, if he has squeezed out a few tears, thinks that is prayer.” St.

ARCHDIOCESAN EVANGELIZATION PRAYER

Holy Spirit, renew your wonders in our time, as though in a new Pentecost, and grant that this Archdiocese, united in prayer around Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and guided by St. Peter, may spread the Kingdom of the divine Savior, a Kingdom of truth, of justice, of love, and of peace. Amen. Saint Paul, our great missionary patron, pray for us.

Sebastian Valfre “Whenever anything disagreeable or displeasing happens to you, remember Christ Crucified and be silent.” St.

“Devotion to St. Joseph is one of the choicest graces that God can give to a soul, for it is tantamount to revealing the entire treasury of our Lord’s graces. When God wishes to raise a soul to greater heights, He unites it to St. Joseph by giving it a strong love for the good saint.” St. Peter Julian Eymard

“Let us love Jesus above all, let us love Mary as our mother; but then, how could we keep from loving Joseph, who was so intimatly united to both Jesus and Mary? And how can we honor him better than by imitating his virtues? Now, what else did he do in all his life but contemplate, study, and adore Jesus, even in the midst of his daily labors? Behold, therefore, our model.” St. Madeliene Sophie Barat

“A servant of Mary will have a tender devotion to St. Joseph, and by his pious homage of respect and love, will endeavor to merit the protection of this great saint.” Bld. William Joseph Chaminade

“Knowing by experience St. Joseph’s astonishing influence with God, I would wish to persuade everyone to honor him with particular devotion. I have always seen those who honored him in a special manner make progress in virtue, for this heavenly protector favors in a striking manner the spiritual advancement of souls who commend themselves to him.” St. Teresa of Avila

Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

“Let us read the lives of the Saints; let us consider the penances which they performed, and blush to be so… fearful of mortifying our flesh.” St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

“Some subordinate their progress in perfection, which consists in denying their desires and likings out of Love for God, to their own tastes and whims. So strong is this inclination that even if they are commanded by obedience to do something which is to their liking, they immediately lose their desire for it, and all interest in it, be-cause their one desire is to do their own will. The Saints did not act this way.” St. John of the Cross

“No one will have any other desire in Heaven than what God wills; and the desire of one will be the desire of all; and the desire of all and of each one will also be the desire of God.” St. Anselm

“Faith in action is Love, and Love in action is service. By trans-forming that Faith into living acts of Love, we put ourselves in contact with God Himself, with Jesus our Lord.”St. Mother Teresa

“Jesus Christ, Lord of all things! You see my heart, you know my desires. Possess all that I am - you alone. I am your sheep; make me worthy to overcome the devil.” St. Agatha

“He who trusts in himself is lost. He who trusts in God can do all things… What does it cost us to say, ‘My God help me! Have mercy on me!’ Is there anything easier than this? And this little will suffice to save us if we be diligent in doing it.” St. Alphonsus Liguori

“At His Transfiguration Christ showed His disciples the splendor of His beauty, to which He will shape and color those who are His: 'He will reform our lowness configured to the body of His glory.'" St. Thomas Aquinas

2.12.23

“It is easy to love the people far away. It is not always easy to love those close to us. It is easier to give a cup of rice to relieve hunger than to relieve the loneliness and pain of someone unloved in our own home. Bring love into your home for this is where our love for each other must start.” St. Theresa of Calcutta

“It takes three to make love, not two: you, your spouse, and God. Without God people only succeed in bringing out the worst in one another. Lovers who have nothing else to do but love each other soon find there is nothing else. Without a central loyalty, life is un-finished.” Ven. Fulton Sheen

“The things that we love tell us what we are.” St. Thomas Aquinas

“Take away from Love the fullness of self-surrender, the complete-ness of personal commitment, and what remains will be a total deni-al and negation of it.” St.

All those who think to learn in any other way deceive them-selves.” St. Francis de Sales

2.5.23

Honor your father and your mother, that you may have a long life in the land the LORD your God is giving you. Exodus 20:12

If anyone says, “I love God,” but hates his brother, he is a liar; for whoever does not love a brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. 1 John 4:20

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the Church and handed Himself over for her. Ephesians 5:25 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing to the Lord. Fathers, do not provoke your children, so they may not become discouraged. Colossians 3:20-21

“As the family goes, so goes the nation and so goes the whole world in which we live.” St. John Paul the Great “If you want to bring happiness to the whole world, go home and love your family.” St. Teresa of Calcutta

“The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the heart of a mother.” St. Therese of Lisieux

"When husband and wife are united in Marriage they no longer seem like something earthly, but rather like the image of God Himself.” St. John Chrysostom

1.29.23

“The devil does not bring sinners to hell with their eyes open: he first blinds them with the malice of their own sins. Before we fall into sin, the enemy labors to blind us, that we may not see the evil we do and the ruin we bring upon ourselves by offending God. After we commit sin, he seeks to make us dumb, that, through shame, we may conceal our guilt in confession.” St. Alphonsus Liguori

"Strive always to confess your sins with a deep knowledge of your own wretchedness and with Clarity and Purity." St. John of the Cross

“In the life of the body a man is sometimes sick, and unless he takes medicine, he will die. Even so in the spiritual life a man is sick on account of sin. For that reason he needs medicine so that he may be restored to health; and this grace is bestowed in the Sacrament of Penance.” St. Thomas Aquinas

“The want of proper examination, true contrition, and a firm purpose of amendment, is the cause of bad Confessions, and of the ruin of souls.” St. Benedict Joseph Labre

“Confession heals, Confession justifies, Confession grants pardon of sin, all hope consists in Confession; in Confession there is a chance for Mercy.” St. Isidore of Seville

1.22.23

“She will bear a son and you are to name Him Jesus because He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21

1.15.23

He humbled Himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross. Because of this, God greatly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the Name that is above every name, that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in Heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. St. Paul’s Letter the Philippians 2:8-11 “To holy people the very Name of Jesus is a Name to feed upon, a Name to transport. His Name can raise the dead and transfigure and beautify the living.” St. John Henry Newman “Faith in

Jesus and in the power of His Holy Name is the greatest spiritual force in the world today. It is a source of joy and inspiration in our youth; of strength in our manhood, when only His Holy Name and His Grace can enable us to overcome temptation; of hope, consolation, and confidence at the hour of our death, when more than ever before, we realize that the meaning of Jesus is ‘Lord, the Savior.’ We should bow in reverence to His Name and submission to His Holy Will.“ Blessed Henry Suso

Lawrence Justinian “Are you troubled?

1.8.23

Augustine “Give me, therefore, I pray Thee, this gold, this incense, and this myrrh.

1.1.23

“Truth, by which the world is held together, has sprung from the earth, in order to be carried in a woman’s arms.” St. Augustine

Padre Pio

12.25.22

Clare of Assisi

“Mankind is a great, an immense family… This is proved by what we feel in our hearts at Christmas.” St. John XXIII

12.11.22

“We who are Christians have a further cause for joy: like Jesus, we know that we are loved by God our Father. This love transforms our lives and fills us with joy. It makes us see that Jesus did not come to lay burdens upon us. He came to teach us what it means to be fully happy and fully human. Therefore, we discover joy when we discover Truth - the Truth about God our Father, the Truth about Jesus our Savior, the Truth about the Holy Spirit who lives in our hearts.” St. John Paul II

“Never let anything so fill you with sorrow as to make you forget the joy of Christ risen.” St. Mother Teresa

12.4.22

11.20.22

“The Word of God, as consubstantial with the Father, has all things in common with Him and, therefore, has necessarily supreme and absolute dominion, over all things created.” St. Cyril of Alexandria

“We must make our way towards Eternity, never regarding what men think of us, or of our actions, studying only to please God.” St. Francis Borgia

11.13.22

Words of Jesus to St. Faustina (as found in the Diary of St. Faustina): “(My daughter) Speak to the world about My Mercy; let all mankind recognize My unfathomable Mercy. It is a sign for the end times; after it will come the Day of Justice. While there is still time, let them have recourse to the fount of My Mercy; let them profit from the Blood and Water which gushed forth for them.” Diary, 848 (cf., John 19:34: “one soldier thrust his lance into His side, and immediately Blood and Water flowed out.”) “Write: before I come as a just Judge, I first open wide the door of My Mercy.

“The greatest method of praying is to pray the Rosary.” - St. Francis de Sales

“Some people are so foolish that they think they can go through life without the help of the Blessed Mother. Love the Madonna and pray the rosary, for her Rosary is the weapon against the evils of the world today. All graces given by God pass through the Blessed Mother.” - St. Padre Pio

“The Most Holy Virgin in these last times in which we live has given a new efficacy to the recitation of the Rosary to such an extent that there is no problem, no matter how difficult it is, whether temporal or above all spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, of our families…that cannot be solved by the Rosary. There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary.” - Sister Lucia of Fatima

"I have great reverence for St. Michael the Archangel; he had no example to follow in doing the Will of God, and yet he fulfilled God's Will faithfully." St. Faustina Kowalska

"God is humanity's universal Teacher and Guardian, but His teach-ing to humanity is mediated by Angels." St. Thomas Aquinas

"Since God often sends us His inspirations by means of His Angels, we ought frequently to offer Him our aspirations through the same channel. Call on them and honor them frequently, and ask their help in all your affairs, temporal as well as spiritual." St. Francis de Sales

9.18.22

“And the nearer the time the Passion of her Son approached, with so much greater pain did that Sword of Sorrow, predicted by St. Simeon, pierce the Heart of the Mother.” St. Alphonsus Ligouri

“While other martyrs suffered by sacrificing their own lives, the Blessed Virgin suffered by sacrificing her Son’s Life, a Life that she loved far more than her own; so that she not only suffered in her soul all that her Son endured in His Body but moreover, the sight of her Son’s torments, brought more grief to her heart, than if she had endured them all in her own person”. St. Anselm

“If you want to assist at Mass, with devotion and with fruit, think of the sorrowful Mother at the feet of Calvary.” St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina

“Mary left her heart buried with Jesus, because Jesus was all her treasure.” St. Alphonsus Ligouri

9.11.22

“Apart from the Cross there is no other ladder by which we may get to Heaven.“ St. Rose of Lima

“In difficult moments, I will fix my gaze upon the silent Heart of Jesus stretched on the Cross, and from the exploding flames of His merciful Heart, will flow down upon me power and strength to keep fighting.” St. Faustina

“If you seek patience, you will find no better example than the Cross. Great patience occurs in two ways: either when one patiently suffers much, or when one suffers things which one is able to avoid and yet does not avoid. Christ endured much on the Cross, and did so patiently, because when He suffered He did not threaten; He was led like a sheep to the slaughter and He did not open His mouth.” St. Thomas Aquinas

9.4.22

“God speaks in the silence of the heart. Listening is the beginning of prayer.” St. Teresa of Calcutta

“Remember this. When people choose to withdraw far from a fire, the fire continues to give warmth, but they grow cold. When people choose to withdraw far from light, the light continues to be bright in itself, but they are in darkness. This is also the case when people withdraw from God.” St. Augustine

"In prayer, more is accomplished by listening than by talking. Let us leave to God the decisions as to what shall be said." St. Francis de Sales

8.21.22

“Mary has the authority over the angels and the blessed in Heaven. As a reward for her great humility, God gave her the power and mission of assigning to saints the thrones made vacant by the apostate angels who fell away through pride. Such is the Will of the almighty God who exalts the humble, that the powers of Heaven, earth and hell, willingly or unwillingly, must obey the commands of the humble Virgin Mary. For God has made her Queen of Heaven and earth, leader of His armies, keeper of His treasure, dispenser of His graces, mediatrix on behalf of men, destroyer of His enemies and faithful associate in His great works and triumphs.” St. Louis Marie de Montfort “She (Mary) has surpassed the riches of the virgins, the confessors, the martyrs, the apostles, the prophets, the patriarchs and the an-gels; for she herself is the first-fruit of the virgins, the mirror of confessors, the rose of martyrs, the ruler of apostles, the oracle of prophets, the daughter of patriarchs, the Queen of angels.” St. Bonaventure

“No one has access to the Almighty as His Mother has - none has merit such as hers. Her Son will deny her nothing that she asks and herein lies her power. While she defends the Church, neither height nor depth, neither men nor evil spirits, neither great monarchs, nor craft of man, nor popular violence, can avail to harm us - for human life is short, but Mary reigns above, a Queen forever.” St. John Henry Newman

“The greatest method of praying is to pray the Rosary.” St. Francis de Sales

"In trial or difficulty I have recourse to Mother Mary, whose glance alone is enough to dissipate every fear." St. Therese of Lisieux

7.31.22

“Very harmful effects can follow accepting the philosophy which denies personal guilt or sin and thereby makes everyone nice. By denying sin, the nice people makes a cure impossible. Sin is most serious, and the tragedy is deepened by the denial that we are sinners… The really unforgivable sin is the denial of sin, because, by its nature, there is now nothing to be forgiven. By refusing to admit to personal guilt, the nice people are made into scandalmongers, gossips, talebearers, and supercritics, for they must project their real if unrecognized guilt to others. This, again, gives them a new illusion of goodness: the increase of faultfinding is in direct ratio and proportion to the denial of sin.” Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen

“In the Eucharist we have Jesus, we have His Redemptive Sacrifice, we have His Resurrection, we have the Gift of the Holy Spirit, we have adoration, obedience, and Love of the Father. Were we to dis-regard the Eucharist, how could we overcome our own deficiency?” St. John Paul II

7.24.22

“Mother, what shall I do to become a contemplative? - ‘Say the Our Father – but take an hour to say it.’” St. Teresa of Avila, responding to a young novice

“Sometimes when I am in such a state of spiritual dryness that not a single good thought occurs to me, I say very slowly the ‘Our Father,’ or the ‘Hail Mary,’ and these prayers suffice to take me out of myself, and wonderfully refresh me.” St. Therese of Lisieux

“Don't imagine that, if you had a great deal of time, you would spend more of it in prayer. Get rid of that idea; it is no hindrance to prayer to spend your time well.” St. Teresa of Avila

“You pay God a compliment by asking great things of Him.” St. Teresa of Avila

“It is simply impossible to lead, without the aid of prayer, a virtuous life.” St. John Chrysostom

“Virtues are formed by prayer. Prayer preserves temperance. Prayer suppresses anger. Prayer prevents emotions of pride and envy. Prayer draws into the soul the Holy Spirit, and raises man to Heaven.” St. Ephraem of Syria

7.17.22

“Disorder in society is the result of disorder in the family.” St. Angela Merici “The world can still set itself right and always will be able to, be-cause the voice and Blood of Christ cry out for pity and mercy… Devotion to the Precious Blood is the devotion of our time… It is a devotion for all souls, for the whole world.” St. Gaspar del Bufalo

"The first end I propose in our daily work is to do the Will of God; secondly, to do it in the manner He wills it; and thirdly, to do it be-cause it is His Will.” St Elizabeth Ann Seton

“Have patience with all things, but chiefly have patience with your-self. Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections but instantly set about remedying them - every day begin the task anew.” St. Francis de Sales

“Our entire good consists not only in accepting the Truth of God’s Word, but in persevering in it.” St. Francis de Sales

“The only reason for my being killed is that I have taught the Doc-trine of Christ. I thank God it is for this reason that I die.” St. Paul Miki (martyr)

7.10.22

"Let us fix our gaze on the Blood of Christ and realize how truly precious It is, seeing that it was poured out for our salvation and brought the grace of conversion to the whole world." Pope St. Clement

“Other devotions which are products of various times have holy and praiseworthy beginnings, but they go back only so far; this devotion is so ancient that it goes back to the moment when Adam sinned, for which reason Jesus was called, ‘the Lamb who has been slain from the foundation of the world.'” St. Gaspar del Bufalo

“I adore You, O Precious Blood of Jesus, flower of creation, fruit of virginity, ineffable instrument of the Holy Spirit, and I rejoice at the thought that You came from the drop of virginal blood on which eternal Love impressed its movement; You were assumed by the Word and deified in His person. I am overcome with emotion when I think of Your passing from the Blessed Virgin's heart into the heart of the Word, and, being vivified by the breath of the Divinity, becoming adorable because You became the Blood of God.” St. Albert the Great

“This Blood that but one drop of has the power to win all the world forgiveness of its world of sin.” St. Thomas Aquinas

Maximilian Kolbe

“O Lord, we cannot go to the pool of Siloe to which you sent the blind man.

Augustine

“We must let it be known how the Blood of Christ cleanses the souls and sanctifies them, particularly by means of the Sacraments.” St. Gaspar del Bufalo

“There is no sin or wrong that gives a man a foretaste of hell in this life as anger and impatience.” St. Catherine of Sienna

“The person who has surrendered himself entirely to sin indulges with enjoyment and pleasure in unnatural and shameful passions - licentiousness, unchastity, greed, hatred, guile and other forms of vice - as though they were natural. The genuine and perfected Christian, on the other hand, with great enjoyment and spiritual pleasure participates effortlessly and without impediment in all the virtues and all the supernatural fruits of the Spirit - love, peace, patient endurance, faith, humility and the entire truly golden galaxy of virtue - as though they were natural.” St. Symeon Metaphrastis
“Satisfaction consists in the cutting off of the causes of the sin.

6.19.22

6.12.22

“Make my soul… Your cherished dwelling place, Your home of rest. Let me never leave You there alone, but keep me there all absorbed in You, in living Faith, adoring You.” St. Elizabeth of the Trinity “Believe that He loves you. “As the soul is the life of the body, so the Holy Spirit is the life of our souls.” St. Peter Damian

5.29.22

"Out of compassion for us He descended from Heaven and although He ascended alone, we also ascend, because we are in Him by Grace." St. Maximus of Turin "Moses brought out of Egypt a timid nation, and in the space of forty years trained it to be full of valor for the task of conquering the promised land; Christ in forty days trains His Apostles to be bold and patient instead of cowards.

Augustine

5.22.22

“Continue to pray the Rosary every day.” The Virgin Mary, Our Lady of Fatima to Servant of God, Lucia do Santos of Fatima

“The greatest method of praying is to pray the Rosary.” St. Francis de Sales

“Some people are so foolish that they think they can go through life without the help of the Blessed Mother. Love the Madonna and pray the Rosary, for her Rosary is the weapon against the evils of the world today. All graces given by God pass through the Blessed Mother.” St. Padre Pio

“The Most Holy Virgin in these last times in which we live has given a new efficacy to the recitation of the Rosary to such an extent that there is no problem, no matter how difficult it is, whether temporal or above all spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, of our families… that cannot be solved by the Rosary. There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary.” Servant of God Lucia dos Santos of Fatima

5.15.22

“Mary having co-operated in our redemption with so much glory to God and so much Love for us, our Lord ordained that no one shall obtain salvation except through her intercession.” St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

"If you invoke the Blessed Virgin when you are tempted, she will come at once to your help, and Satan will leave you." St. John Vianney

5.8.22

"If you ever feel distressed during your day, call upon our Lady, just say this simple prayer: 'Mary, Mother of Jesus, please be a mother to me now.' I must admit, this prayer has never failed me." St. Mother Teresa

5.1.22

“Never be afraid of loving the Blessed Virgin too much. You can never love her more than Jesus did.” St. Maximilian Kolbe

"Men do not fear a powerful hostile army as the powers of hell fear the name and protection of Mary." St. Bonaventure

"Before, by yourself, you couldn't. Now, you've turned to our Lady, and with her, how easy!" St. Josemaria Escriva

4.24.22

“'Oh how much I am hurt by a soul’s distrust! Such a soul profess-es that I am Holy and Just, but does not believe that I am Mercy and does not trust in My Goodness.

You always console Me when you pray for sin-ners.

4.17.22

“O Death, where is your sting? O Hell, where is your victory? Christ is Risen, and you are overthrown. Christ is Risen, and the demons are fallen. Christ is Risen, and the angels rejoice. Christ is Risen, and life reigns. Christ is Risen, and not one dead remains in the grave. For Christ, being Risen from the dead, is become the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. To Him be glory and dominion unto ages of ages.” St. John Chrysostom

“Now since you are celebrating the holy Pascha, you should know, brethren, what the Pascha is. Pascha means the crossing-over, and so the Festival is called by this name. For it was on this day that the Children of Israel crossed over out of Egypt, and the Son of God crossed over from this world to His Father. What gain is it to celebrate unless you imitate Him Whom you worship; that is, unless you cross over from Egypt, that is, from the darkness of evildoing to the light of virtue, from the love of this world to the love of your Heavenly Home?” St. Ambrose of Milan

4.10.22

4.3.22

“He (St. Francis of Assisi ) was one day found by a gentleman shed-ding tears, and crying out with a loud voice: being asked the cause: ‘I weep,’ he answered, ‘over the sorrows and disgraces of my Lord: and what causes me the greatest sorrow is, that men, for whom He suffered so much, live in forgetfulness of Him.’ And on saying this he wept the more, so that this gentleman began also himself to weep.” St. Alphonsus Liguori

“One day, while St. Francis (of Assisi) was praying, Jesus Christ appeared to him fastened to the Cross. And the memory of Christ’s Pas-sion was so impressed on the innermost recesses of his heart that from that hour, whenever Christ’s Crucifixion came to mind, he could scarcely contain his tears and sighs.” St. Bonaventure

“But especially I commend earnest mental prayer to you, more particularly such as bears upon the Life and Passion of our Lord. If you con-template Him frequently in meditation, your whole soul will be filled with Him, you will grow in His Likeness, and your actions will be moulded on His. He is the Light of the world; therefore in Him, by Him, and for Him we shall be enlightened and illuminated.” St. Fran-cis de Sales

3.13.22

“Devotion to St. Joseph is one of the choicest graces that God can give to a soul, for it is tantamount to revealing the entire treasury of our Lord’s graces. When God wishes to raise a soul to greater heights, He unites it to St. Joseph by giving it a strong love for the good saint.” St. Peter Julian Eymard

“Let us love Jesus above all, let us love Mary as our mother; but then, how could we keep from loving Joseph, who was so intimately united to both Jesus and Mary?

3.6.22

“He so hated and despised sin that He avenged it on His own body with great pain, derision, torture, and reproach, His passion and death - and not for Himself (for the poison of sin was not in Him) but only as a service to us, to satisfy for our sins. He gives us back the light of Grace and relieves us of the darkness that had entered our soul be-cause of sin.” St. Catherine of Siena “I say we have been given a guide. I mean the only-begotten Incarnate Word, God's Son, who shows us how to walk along this road that is so well lighted. He says, you know ‘I am the Way and Truth and Life. So strong is this inclination that even if they are commanded by obedience to do something which is to their liking, they immediately lose their desire for it, and all interest in it, because their one desire is to do their own will. The saints did not act this way.” St. John of the Cross

“If a man finds it very hard to forgive injuries, let him look at a Crucifix, and think that Christ shed all His Blood for him, and not only forgave His enemies, but even prayed His Heavenly Father to forgive them also. 1.30.22

1.2.22

Therefore, we discover joy when we discover Truth - the Truth about God our Father, the Truth about Jesus our Savior, the Truth about the Holy Spirit who lives in our hearts.” St. John Paul II

Determined is the day of Justice, the Day of Divine Wrath. The Angels tremble before it. Speak to souls about this great Mercy while it is still the time for granting Mercy.” Diary, 63

Oh, no, I will imagine them always surrounding me and in every moment will sing with them, 'Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts, Heaven and earth are full of Your glory!'" St. Elizabeth Seton

As a reward for her great humility, God gave her the power and mis-sion of assigning to saints the thrones made vacant by the apostate angels who fell away through pride. St. A ngela of Foligno "When you have received Him, stir up your heart to do Him homage; speak to Him about your spiritual life, gazing upon Him in your soul where He is present for your happiness; welcome Him as warmly as possible, and behave outwardly in such a way that your actions may give proof to all of His Presence." St. Francis de Sales "What wonderful majesty! What stupendous condescension! O sublime humility! That the Lord of the whole universe, God and the Son of God, should humble Himself like this under the form of a little bread, for our salvation" "...In this world I cannot see the Most High Son of God with my own eyes, except for His Most Holy Body and Blood." St. Francis of A ssisi "All the good works in the world are not equal to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass because they are the works of men; but the Holy Mass is the work of God. Martyrdom is nothing in comparison for it is but the sacrifice of man to God; but the Holy Mass is the sacrifice of God for man." St. John V ianney, Cure d'A rs

“Saint Teresa, as the Roman Rota attests, never fell into any mortal sin; but still Our Lord showed her the place prepared for her in Hell; not because she deserved Hell, but because, had she not risen from the state of lukewarmness in which she lived, she would in the end have lost the grace of God and been damned.” St. Alphonsus Maria Liguori

6.6.21

The 12 Promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque:

Our Lord Jesus Christ appeared to St. Margaret Mary between 1673-1675. Among the words spoken to her, she heard Jesus make 12 promises to those who would respond to the pleading of His Heart and make an effort to return His Love. St. Margaret Mary once said, “I do not know of any other exercise in the spiritual life that is more calculated to raise a soul in a short amount of time to the height of perfection and to make it taste the true sweetness to be found in the service of Jesus Christ.”

1. I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life.

2. I will establish peace in their homes.

3. I will comfort them in all their afflictions.

4. I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all, in death.

5. I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their undertakings. 6. Sinners will find in My Heart the source and infinite ocean of Mercy.

7. Lukewarm souls shall become fervent.

8. Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection.

9. I will bless every place in which an image of My Heart is exposed and honored.

10. I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.

11. Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart.

12. I promise you in the excessive Mercy of My Heart that My all powerful Love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Fridays in nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance; they shall not die in My disgrace, nor without receiving their Sacraments. My Divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.

5.30.21

But their being, their equality, and their majesty are one. My soul is in communion with these Three; but I do not know how to express this in words; yet my soul understands this well. Whoever is united to One of the Three Persons is thereby united to the whole Blessed Trinity, for this Oneness is indivisible.” St. Faustina, from her Diary, 472

5.23.21

“Those whose hearts are pure are temples of the Holy Spirit.” St. Lucy "O Holy Spirit, descend plentifully into my heart. Enlighten the dark corners of this neglected dwelling and scatter there Thy cheerful beams.” St. Augustine

“Enrich your soul in the great goodness of God: The Father is your table, the Son is your food, and the Holy Spirit waits on you and then makes His dwelling in you.” St. Catherine of Siena

“As the soul is the life of the body, so the Holy Spirit is the life of our souls.” St. Peter Damian

5.16.21

"Out of compassion for us He descended from Heaven and alt-hough He ascended alone, we also ascend, because we are in Him by grace." St.

5.9.21

"If you ever feel distressed during your day, call upon our Lady, just say this simple prayer: 'Mary, Mother of Jesus, please be a mother to me now.' I must admit, this prayer has never failed me." St. Mother Teresa

"May the mother of Jesus and our mother, always smile on your spirit, obtaining for it, from her most Holy Son, every heavenly blessing." St. Padre Pio

"In trial or difficulty I have recourse to Mother Mary, whose glance alone is enough to dissipate every fear." St. Therese of Lisieux

5.2.21

"We never give more honor to Jesus than when we honor His Mother, and we honor her simply and solely to honor Him all the more perfectly. We go to her only as a way leading to the goal we seek - Jesus, her Son." St. Louis Marie de Montfort

“A servant of Mary will have a tender devotion to St. Joseph, and by his pious homage of respect and love, will endeavor to merit the protection of this great saint.” Blessed William Joseph Chaminade

“Saint Joseph, our father and lord, is a teacher of the interior life. Place yourself under his patronage and you’ll feel the effectiveness of his power.” St. Josemaria Escriva

4.18.21

“Never despair of God‟s mercy.” St. Benedict

“The rediscovery of the Lord‟s Day is a grace which we must implore, not only so that we may live the demands of Faith to the full, but also so that we may respond concretely to the deepest human yearnings. Time given to Christ is never time lost, but is rather time gained, so that our relationships and indeed our whole life may become more profoundly human.” St. John Paul II

“But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Savior on the same day rose from the dead.”St. Justin Martyr

“Who except God can give you peace? Has the world ever been able to satisfy the heart?” St. Gerard Majella

“Jesus Christ loves a soul that is in a state of grace with an immense love; He ardently desires to unite Himself with it. This is what Holy Communion does.” St. Alphonsus Liguori

4.11.21

―Oh how much I am hurt by a soul‘s distrust! Such a soul professes that I am Holy and Just, but does not believe that I am Mercy and does not trust in My Goodness. Even the devils believe in My Justice, but do not glorify My Goodness. My Heart rejoices in this title of Mercy.'‖ (Diary, #300)

―Proclaim that Mercy is the greatest attribute of God. All the works of My hands are crowned with Mercy.'‖ (Diary, #301)
―When once I asked the Lord Jesus how He could tolerate so many sins and crimes and not punish them, the Lord answered me, ‗I have an eternity for punishing [these], and so I am prolonging the time of Mercy for the sake of [sinners]. But woe to them if they do not recognize the time of My visitation.‘‖ (Diary, #1160)

―The Lord said to me, ‗The loss of each soul plunges Me into mortal sadness. You always console Me when you pray for sinners. The prayer most pleasing to Me is prayer for the conversion of sinners. Know, My daughter, that this prayer is always heard and answered.‘‖ (Diary, #1397)

―Jesus: My child, life on earth is a struggle indeed; a great struggle for My Kingdom. But fear not, because you are not alone. I am always supporting you, so lean on Me as you struggle, fearing nothing. Take the vessel of trust and draw from the Fountain of Life - for yourself, but also for other souls, especially such as are distrustful of My Goodness.‘‖ (Diary of St. Faustina, #1488)

4.4.21 Easter

“O Death, where is your sting? O Hell, where is your victory? Christ is Risen, and you are overthrown. Christ is Risen, and the demons are fallen. Christ is Risen, and the angels rejoice. Christ is Risen, and life reigns. Christ is Risen, and not one dead remains in the grave. For Christ, being Risen from the dead, is become the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. To Him be glory and dominion unto ages of ages.” St. John Chrysostom

What gain is it to celebrate unless you imitate Him Whom you worship; that is, un-less you cross over from Egypt, that is, from the darkness of evildo-ing to the light of virtue, from the love of this world to the love of your Heavenly Home?” St. Ambrose of Milan

3.7.21

“He so hated and despised sin that He avenged it on His own body with great pain, derision, torture, and reproach, His passion and death - and not for Himself (for the poison of sin was not in Him) but only as a service to us, to satisfy for our sins. He gives us back the light of grace and relieves us of the darkness that had entered our soul because of sin.” St. Catherine of Siena

Alphon-sus Maria de Liguori

“Let us read the lives of the saints; let us consider the penances which they performed, and blush to be so… fearful of mortifying our flesh.” St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

“Some subordinate their progress in perfection, which consists in deny-ing their desires and likings out of love for God, to their own tastes and whims. So strong is this inclination that even if they are commanded by obedience to do something which is to their liking, they immediately lose their desire for it, and all interest in it, because their one desire is to do their own will. The saints did not act this way.” St. John of the Cross

“Sin is the assassin of the soul.” St. John Vianney

2.14.21

“If a man finds it very hard to forgive injuries, let him look at a Crucifix, and think that Christ shed all His Blood for him, and not only forgave His enemies, but even prayed His Heavenly Father to forgive them also. Let him remember that when he says the Pater Noster, every day, instead of asking pardon for his sins, he is calling down vengeance on himself.” St. Philip Neri

1.31.21

“In the life of the body a man is sometimes sick, and unless he takes medicine, he will die. Even so in the spiritual life a man is sick on account of sin. For that reason he needs medicine so that he may be restored to health; and this grace is bestowed in the Sacrament of Penance.” St. Thomas Aquinas

1.24.21

America needs no words from me to see how your decision in Roe v. Wade has deformed a great nation. The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and women against men. It has sown violence and discord at the heart of the most intimate human relationships. It has aggravated the derogation of the father's role in an increasingly fatherless society. It has portrayed the greatest of gifts -- a child -- as a competitor, an intrusion, and an inconvenience. It has nominally accorded mothers unfettered dominion over the independent lives of their physically dependent sons and daughters". And, in granting this unconscionable power, it has exposed many women to unjust and selfish demands from their husbands or other sexual partners. Human rights are not a privilege conferred by government. They are every hu-man being's entitlement by virtue of his humanity. The right to life does not depend, and must not be declared to be contingent, on the pleasure of anyone else, not even a parent or a sovereign." Blessed Mother Teresa

“Be brave and try to detach your heart from worldly things.” St. John Bosco

“God doesn’t ask that we succeed in everything, but that we are faithful. However beautiful our work may be, let us not become attached to it. Always remain prepared to give it up, without losing your peace.” St. Teresa of Calcutta

“Whatever a man loves he inevitably clings to, and in order not to lose it he rejects everything that keeps him from it. So he who loves God cultivates pure prayer, driving out every passion that keeps him from it.” St. Maximus the Confessor

“It is a reasonable consequence that he who runs after perishable goods should himself perish.” St. Teresa of Avila
